Cheryl PackwoodCHERYL PACKWOOD

Ms. Cheryl Packwood joined the Bermuda International Business Association on October 9, 2006 and has led the transformation of the organization’s international marketing and local outreach

programmes, culminating in the recent renaming of the Association to Business Bermuda in March 2010.

In Bermuda, Mrs. Packwood has held senior positions as General Manager at Digicel Bermuda and also the Bermuda Monetary Authority where she was General Manager, Corporate Services and Secretary to the Board of Directors as well as Director, Legal Service, Enforcement and International Affairs. Internationally, she was Managing Director of CORA for Western Wireless International Corporation and Counsel and Director of International Development

for N’Goan, Asman & Associes, both in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire. Prior to moving to the Cote d’Ivoire, Mrs. Packwood practiced law at Shearman & Sterling and taught at the Martin Luther King, Jr.

High School, both located in New York.

Mrs. Packwood received her Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude from Yale University and subsequently, a Juris Doctorate Degree from Harvard Law School in 1987.

Chris Sinclair has over 30 years experience in Financial Markets, the greater part of it spent in Luxembourg and specifically in the Fund Industry.

His expertise covers the world of Investment Funds ranging from product design and initiation, structuring and asset management to regulatory supervision and operations.

Before joining Deloitte, Chris was COO for RBC Dexia Luxembourg and prior to that held the same role at State Street Bank Luxembourg. He has held Senior Management positions with ABN AMRO Asset Management and Robert Fleming Luxembourg.

He has also worked as a Portfolio Manager, and in the Structuring of Luxembourg Funds and other investment vehicles.

Dr. Emaliese Lofaro graduated as Doctor of Laws in 2009 (Malta) and proceeded to pursue a Magister Juris degree in European and Comparative Law which she completed in 2010. Emaliese spent over two years working with a Maltese law firm frequenting the Law Courts and handling mainly civil cases. Currently, Emaliese is employed with the Regulatory Development Unit at MFSA as research manager. Her job entails the formulation of working documents related to regulatory development and legal research related to the development of new products.

Fiona joined Guernsey Finance, the promotional body for the island’s finance industry, at the end of March 2011. Her role includes assisting with business development in new and emerging markets, providing technical support to industry and liaising with industry associations.

Joanne Beiso has been working at the Financial Services Commission Gibraltar since 2003 where she has been involved in regulating investment firms, funds and banks. Since 2010 Joanne has been the Head of Funds and Pensions.

Joanne SenĂ© is a Director of Armor Portfolio Management Ltd and of Velay Financial Services Ltd (VFS). She joined VFS in 2003 after having worked in the Asset Management industry in London for six years. On graduating from Reading University in 1996, she began her career at Henderson Global Investors working for the international equities desk and later moved into the fixed income arena as a Business Analyst with Morley Fund Management. In Gibraltar, she has extended her experience to the private client industry, managing client funds & accounts and supervising all operations. Joanne is also Director of several Experienced Investor Funds in Gibraltar and an active member of the executive committee of GFIA – the Gibraltar Funds and Investment Association.


John LowryJOHN LOWRY

John has over 20 years’ experience in the funds management industry. Throughout his career, John has overseen the establishment and management of new businesses in the hedge fund and asset management industries.

Over his career, John has helped a range of asset management groups to promote their services through the creation of brand identities and through the development of effective marketing strategies and distribution programs. Prior to co-founding ML Capital, John was the Founding Partner at Tara Capital, a leading global distributor of hedge funds which helped money management clients attract over $3 billion in new assets.

Previously to Tara Capital he worked for Globalvest. In 1991, John helped establish the European operations for the Old Mutual group. In the early part of his career John worked as a manager research analyst and established the Irish operations for Standard and Poors fund rating business, Micropal. John gained an MA in Economics & Geography from Trinity College, Dublin.

Jon joined Ernst & Young, as part of the hedge fund tax team, in September 2007 from Barclays Tax and is a member of both the Association of Taxation Technicians and the Chartered Institute of Taxation.

Jon specialises in the provision of tax advisory services to the firm’s hedge fund clients. He advises clients on the tax implications of structuring new businesses; restructuring; international expansion; and mergers and acquisitions. Jon also provides corporate and partnership tax compliance advice. Jon has a BSC from Loughborough University.

Jon has long experience of turnarounds, having invested in them for 30 years and with considerable success.

Jon is a Chartered Accountant, a CF and a Fellow of the Institute for Turnaround Professionals. Former Managing Partner of Alchemy, Jon also previously worked with Citicorp Venture Capital in New York and London, Permira and Apax.

Jon is a trustee of the UK Stem Cell Foundation. He is a very active angel investor. He is non-executive Chairman of FinnCap, the stockbroker and has recently been appointed a member of the Advisory Board for the ÂŁ1.4bn UK Regional Growth Fund.


Lauren JacksonLAUREN JACKSON

Lauren joined IMA in June 2010 and is responsible for monitoring, analysing and advising on developments affecting the taxation of authorised investment funds and other types of pooled vehicles, domiciled in the UK or offshore. She is also responsible for assisting IMA members with their tax queries and for making representations to tax authorities on matters affecting funds and asset managers.

She is currently on secondment to IMA from Deloitte LLP where she is a Tax Manager in their Financial Services Tax Practice sitting in the Investment Management team. She joined Deloitte in 2005 and has experience in all aspects of the taxation of collective investment vehicles.

She studied Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh and is ACA and CTA qualified.


Marcus KillickMARCUS KILLICK

Marcus Killick is CEO of the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission. He is an Llb, Mphil, Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments as well as a member of the Chartered Management Institute (Diploma in Management and Leadership) and the Chartered Insurance Institute, He took over as Chairman and Commissioner of the Commission in April 2003 and became its first Chief Executive following the introduction of the Financial Services Commission Act 2007.

Previously roles have included Deputy Chief Executive of the Isle of Man Financial Supervision Commission, Head of Banking and Investments at the Cayman Island Monetary Authority and Director in KPMG’s Financial International Regulatory Services Team.

An English barrister by training he is also a member of the New York State Bar.

Marcus was one of the founding directors of the United Kingdom Association of Compliance Officers (Subsequently renamed the Compliance Institute).

Nicholas joined Sarasin & Partners in 2005. His career in the City started in 1986 at Cazenove where he became a Partner and was responsible for the Private Client department.

At Sarasin & Partners he is responsible for the operational coordination of the fund launch and review processes. He also acts as COO for the Client Affairs department.

Nicholas has a MSCI diploma from the Securities Institute.

Simon is a former editor of Luxembourg Business and International Money Marketing and has contributed to a broad range of print, broadcast and online media including Reuters, the Financial Times and the International Herald Tribune.
